(Kirksville, MO) – Kirksville Police are investigating manhole covers and drainage grates that have gone missing all over the area.
Police say that the missing grates and covers are a serious safety hazard for cars, bikes, and pedestrians.
“If you aren’t really paying attention, it can cause a lot of damage. It’s a very dangerous situation,” said Kirksville deputy chief, Steve Farnsworth.
Full details on the number of missing grates have yet to be released. But, finding replacements for the missing covers could cost the city and taxpayers hundreds of dollars. One manhole cover can cost up to $300.
